In November of last year, a large dog fighting operation was discovered in Michigan. Among the 108 dogs rescued from the property was a blind dog that had been chained outside with only a dilapidated doghouse for shelter. Bark Nation, an animal welfare organization located in Detroit, worked alongside state and federal law enforcement to rescue all of the dogs. Their mission is to end dogfighting and save the lives of these innocent animals.
A veterinarian assessed the condition of the dogs and found that one of them, a gentle male pooch, had probably lost his vision due to the trauma of dogfighting. The poor dog had spent his life outside, without protection from the weather, and completely unable to see. Jessica Brown, the Director of Operations at Bark Nation, expressed her sympathy, saying that it must have been a traumatic experience for him. Despite his challenges, the sweet dog, affectionately called Turkey Jerky Snack or the KING, managed to capture the hearts of the staff and volunteers.
Turkey has started adjusting to her life in a shelter, and she hopes to find a permanent home soon. On the other hand, he has moved on from his distressing past and is prepared to love unconditionally. With his vision impairment, navigating new surroundings can be daunting, which is why he has his very own unique wagon that he uses to venture outside every day.
This adorable dog is in search of someone to cuddle with and watch movies all day. Although he is deaf, he still enjoys going on adventures and spending time with his favorite people. His perfect day would consist of snuggling up with some delicious treats and watching Disney movies while munching on some cheese pizza. He has won an award at the shelter’s Bark-ademy Awards for being the “Best Actor” and is loved by everyone who meets him. Turkey needs a family with a fenced-in yard and a canine companion to keep him company. The shelter team is happy to help with gradual introductions to help him adjust to his new surroundings. Many other dogs from the dogfighting raid still need loving homes, and you can find a list of all available dogs for adoption on their website.
Bark Nation is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to putting an end to canine abuse and dogfighting. They also provide care for numerous rescued dogs. Their efforts have resulted in more than 450 survivors of dogfighting being placed in loving homes with the aid of their partners since 2018. What’s remarkable is that they don’t receive government funding, but rather rely on the generosity of their supporters. If you’re interested in learning more about their incredible work and how you can participate, go to their website.
