On the evening of November 10th, Coach Lionel Scaloni officially announced the list of 28 players for the Argentina national team to prepare for two matches against Uruguay and Brazil in the South American World Cup 2026 qualifiers.
As expected by fans, Lionel Messi will once again lead the Argentina squad as they gear up for the two qualifiers with the aim of defending their top spot in the group.
The reigning world champions are set to play their first match of the World Cup qualifiers on November 17 against Uruguay and their second match on November 21 against Brazil. Argentina is currently the only team in the South American region to have won all four rounds and secure their spot at the top of the rankings, with Uruguay and Brazil following closely behind in second and third place respectively with five points each.
Apart from Messi, other notable players like Julian Alvarez (Man City), Enzo Fernandes (Chelsea), Cristian Romero (Tottenham), and goalkeeper Martinez (Aston Villa) have been selected and are expected to be integral members of the starting lineup. Messi has recently completed his season with MLS team Inter Miami and will be resting until February 2024, making it the perfect time for him to focus on contributing to Argentina’s success in securing a spot in the 2026 World Cup.
